A stunning bottle of Caol Ila, distilled all the way back in January 1984. After 35 long years, the single malt was bottled in March 2019 from a single refill hogshead, for Douglas Laing's XOP Old Particular range. The whisky saw an outturn of only 268 bottles at 48.6% ABV. Tasting Note by The Producer
From Douglas Laing’s XOP range (Xtra Old Particular) comes this 41-year-old single grain whisky, aged in a refill hogshead. Bottled at natural cask strength – 50.8% ABV – the nose is distinctly fruity, with additional notes of honey. The palate holds a real Americana style, with sweet corn flavours and hints of vanilla, and finishes with buttery toffee flavours.
A 21 year old single malt from Clynelish, bottled for the Xtra Old Particular range by Douglas Laing. This one was matured from April 1997 to August 2018 in a refill hogshead, then bottled at cask strength with an outturn of 309 bottles.
A fabulous single grain from Garnheath Distillery, which was closed and demolished in 1986 – just eight years after this whisky was distilled in 1974! It rested for many, many moons in a single refill barrel, until Douglas Laing bottled the Lowlander in April 2020. Just 139 bottles were released for the Xtra Old Particular series at an approachable cask strength, 45.9% ABV, full of that hallmark grain sweetness.
Single cask single grain from the Girvan Distillery, independently bottled by Douglas Laing for the Xtra Old Particular range. It was distilled in May 1979 and left to age in a single refill hogshead for over 40 years - an impressive feat! It was bottled in May 2019 with a small outturn of 317 bottles, each one accompanied by its own wooden presentation case.
Distilled in July 1988 at Girvan, this single grain Scotch whisky was aged in a single refill hogshead which yielded 230 bottles. After 30 years this special liquid was bottled at 58.1% ABV in March 2019, for Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular series. Very extra and very old indeed.

A very impressive bottling of Macallan, distilled all the way back in 1993! The single malt then spent an entire quarter of a decade in a refill hogshead. We're sure it had a lovely time, though at long last, 25 years later, Douglas Laing bottled the Speyside whisky at cask strength for its Xtra Old Particular range. 280 bottles were produced at 51.6% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration as always.
A gorgeous sherried Macduff single malt, bottled for the aptly-named Xtra Old Particular series by Douglas Laing. Distilled in February 1990, the Highland whisky rested in a single sherry butt for three decades, until 146 cask strength bottles were yielded from the cask in April 2020. Heaps of juicy, jammy red fruit and baking spices in here.
An astonishing bottling from Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range - this is a well-sherried 35 year old single malt produced at Islay's long-closed Port Ellen distillery! It was aged in a single sherry hogshead from march 1983 to February 2019, then bottled at cask strength with an outturn of only 133 bottles. The whiskies from Port Ellen have become hugely sought-after, and this one is sure to turn a few heads...
Douglas Laing's XOP (Xtra Old Particular) is the best of the best from the Douglas Laing family vaults. This range of rare aged Single Malt and Single Grain Scotch Whiskies is bottled exactly the way the Distiller intended: without colouring or chill-filtration, and at Cask Strength. This particular expression from the Tomatin Distillery has spent 25 long years maturing in a Refill Hogshead. Only 315 bottles are available.
